What LOCKIN is

A seven day business building retreat for aspiring founders. No technical experience required.

Not a holiday with a laptop. A week to make the thingreal.

The work, 01

Build

Turn the idea into something another person can actually use.

The work, 02

Test

Put it in front of real people. Watch what they do, not what they say.

The work, 03

Ship

Leave with a customer, a clue or a dead end worth knowing.

01

The place

A real city. An island that makes youlook up.

The accommodation is split across a few nearby places, with one central workspace where everyone builds together. Where you sleep, work and eat are all within easy reach. Step outside and you are in Funchal.

Coffee at the market. Cobbled streets after dark. Mountains behind you and the Atlantic in front. You walk everywhere.

The useful geography

20 minutes to the trail.
20 minutes to the water.

The rhythm

One day. Done properly.

People talking around the shared table at the central workspace in Funchal

Morning 01

Build.

One central workspace where the whole camp comes together. Long focus blocks. No meetings. No deck theatre. Make the thing real.

Hikers on a Madeira levada trail above the clouds

Afternoon 02

Move.

Levada trails above the clouds. Atlantic swims. Volcanic rock under your feet. Your best thinking rarely happens at a desk.

People sharing a candlelit dinner at one long table

Evening 03

Belong.

Every dinner is included and every dinner is shared. Twenty people, one long table, zero sad networking lanyards.

The Lockin vault

Your phone is not invited.

AI is fast. Your attention is rare. And your brain cannot do meaningful work between three Slack pings and a “quick” scroll. On arrival, the phone goes in the vault. Dramatic? Yes. Effective? Also yes.

The week

A week with a shape. Not a rigid timetable.

The structure protects momentum. The gaps leave room for weather, energy and the strange turn your idea takes on day three.

Day 00

Arrive

Land. Exhale. Lock in.

Settle into the building, meet the crew, hand over the phone and share the first dinner around the long table.

Day 01

Choose

One idea. One direction.

A guided workshop with founders who have been here before, ruthless idea selection and the first focused work block. Finish with an orientation walk and dinner together.

Day 02

Make

Give it a pulse.

Two deep build blocks with practical support between them. Swim in the ocean late in the afternoon, then share food and an honest progress check.

Day 03

Test

Reality enters the room.

Put the early version in front of real people. After lunch, leave the screens behind for a mountain hike and a relaxed shared dinner.

Day 04

Ask

Make the offer.

Turn the idea into something people can say yes or no to. The afternoon opens into an island excursion before everyone regroups over dinner.

Day 05

Fix

Follow the evidence.

Rebuild what matters, kill what does not and get unstuck in small clinics. Take an optional swim before another evening around the long table.

Day 06

Ship

Show the receipts.

Final build sprint, demos and the clearest next step for every idea. Close the camp with a dinner worth staying up for.

Day 07

Return

Take the momentum home.

Slow breakfast, phones returned and departures. You leave with proof, a plan and people who know what you are building.

The rhythm may move with the weather and the group. The promise stays the same: protected work, time outside and dinner together every night.

Before you reserve

Fair questions.

The week should feel bold. The decision to join it should feel clear.

How much does Camp 01 cost?

Places start at £1,495 per person in a shared bunk room. Private stays range from £1,845 to £2,245 per person, depending on the room or apartment offered. Every price includes the same complete programme, workspace, founder workshops, dinners and organised island experiences.

When do I pay?

Choose your camp and stay, then pay £99 through our secure Stripe checkout to reserve your place. The deposit is deducted from the full price. The remaining balance is due on 25 January 2027, six weeks before the camp. Reservations made after that date require payment in full.

Do I need to be technical?

No. LOCKIN is deliberately built for people without technical experience as well as people who code. AI can help you research, write, design and prototype. The week is about using those tools to move an idea into the real world.

Do I need to quit my job first?

No. You can, and probably should, still have a job. LOCKIN is for people who are ready to stop waiting for the perfect moment, not people who have already bet the rent. Take a week of annual leave. Use it to find out whether the idea deserves more of your life.

What should I arrive with?

Bring an idea you cannot stop thinking about, even if it is rough. It can be a business, service, product, creative project or community. You do not need a company, pitch deck or polished plan.

What if my idea changes during the week?

Good. The point is to follow evidence, not defend the idea you arrived with. A sharper direction is real progress. So is a considered decision to stop.

Are the phones really locked away?

Yes. Keeping phones locked away is central to the experience. We will explain access and emergency arrangements before you confirm your place, so you can prepare properly.

Are the hikes, swims and excursions compulsory?

No. Movement is part of the rhythm, not a fitness test. Activities are optional, and you can use the time to rest or continue working when that is what you need.

What is included?

Seven nights, the shared workspace, the full LOCKIN programme, guided founder workshops, dinners, organised hikes, swims and excursions. Your room type depends on the option you choose.

What is not included?

Flights, airport transfers, lunches, most breakfasts, travel insurance and personal spending are not included. The reservation summary confirms your room, full price and payment schedule before you enter checkout.

Is everyone staying in the same building?

No. The accommodation is split across a small collection of places in central Funchal. Everyone comes together at the same central workspace each day, and the stays are all within easy reach of it.

Who runs the workshops?

The workshops are led by founders who have taken ideas from a rough first version to something people use and pay for. Expect practical help with choosing what to build, using AI well, finding early users, making the offer and getting the work out into the world. These are working sessions, not lectures.

How does reserving work?

Choose the camp and room you want, enter your name and email, then pay the £99 deposit through Stripe. Your place is secured when the deposit is confirmed. We send the short onboarding questionnaire afterwards.

What should I expect to leave with?

A working first version, real feedback and a clear next move. That might mean a first customer, early users, a stronger direction or evidence that saves you from wasting another year.
